Hello Watercolor Friends,

I've made a Christmas card for this Watercolor Weekend using a cabin from the new 4962 - WC Rustic Cabins Set. I also used the tree from the WC Tree Set - 4269 and the fence from the 4807 - Old Barn Set. I used some Zig Wink of Stella to add glitter to the snow. I used Glossy Accents on the lights and Nuvo Crystal Drops on the trees to add sparkle. I used a Uni-ball Signo pen to add the snow to the sky.

My “Merry Christmas Ornament” for today’s Art Impressions Watercolor Weekend is a perfect gift to make this holiday season.

To begin, either hand write, stamp or print Merry Christmas 2017 on your watercolor paper. I opted to print it. Cut out a 3” circle with Merry Christmas 2017 to the right, leaving room to stamp to the left. Stamp about ¾ of the tree trunk from the WC Fir Trees Set in 45 Sepia. Build the tree using the two straight fir boughs from the WC Fir Trees Set in 72 Pine Green. Stamp the large bough straight up on the top of the tree trunk then the small bough four times below on each side of the tree trunk and then the large bough at the very bottom on both sides of the tree trunk. Pull the color with your watercolor brush and water. Place about a tablespoon snow flakes and about a ½ teaspoon jumbo glitter in the ornament. Run a thin line of strong liquid glue on the edge of the ornament. Attach the watercolored piece to the ornament. Run another thin line of liquid glue where the ornament and paper meet. Let dry. Tie a piece of the Christmas plaid ribbon into a bow and glue on the top and let dry. Finally attach a piece of jute into the ornament and tie for the hanger. Shake the ornament to get the glitter and snow to move around.

I started out stamping the puppy (which I used a stamp positioner to get him straight) with Sepia. I pulled the color out of the lines. I added some color to my palette and filled him in. I darkened in his ears, eyes and nose with the fine tip of the marker. I decided to draw in a color and cuffs to make him look like he was wearing a sweater. I added some white gel pen dots to jazz it up. I created a mask and used it to protect him.

Using my stamp positioner, I stamped the bench over the masked puppy. I didn't ink up the area where the snow is on the bench. I pulled the color out of the lines and added some squiggly lines with my Sepia and darkened some areas. I drew in a wavy line for the lights and added some English Red, African Violet, Brilliant Yellow and Pine Green circles to make them look like lights.

I inked up the tree trunk with Sepia and the small top of the Fir tree and stamped it to the right of the bench. I added the light to the left leaving off where the wreath would be. I added Brilliant Yellow to the lamp and on a few areas on the snow. I added some masking fluid where the wreath would be to be able to add some ornaments. I then used the positioner to stamp the wreath in Pine Green. I added African Violet and English Red ornaments to the wreath.

Using the fine tip of my African Violet I drew in some the snow and pulled the color above the line to leave the snow white but it creates a shadow. I used African Violet to create the sky.

I cut the picture out with the stitched rectangle die and mounted it on a piece of Gina K Designs Cranberry Tart cardstock. I added the Season's Greetings sentiment which is also from Gina K.

wood slice ornaments by Diane Zechman

Hello Ai friends and happy Monday!

Today I am sharing a Christmas project using two different Ai stamp sets... 4943 Singing Snowmen PopCard and 4809- Nativity MTF. The PopCards and Mini TryFolds images are SO fun to use as they were intended (creating interactive cards) but can also be used many other ways! Today I made some Birch Tag (wood slice) ornaments!

To begin, purchase some wood slices (or cut them yourself if you can!).  I purchased these Birch Tags at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I've also ordered some from Amazon which are a different type of wood and I haven't used them yet. But I'm assuming I will have similar results.  The wood slices from Amazon are approx. 3/16" in thickness compared to the M's and H.L. ones which are 1/2" thick.  My husband drilled holes in these for me but some come pre-drilled too.

Next you need to choose the Ai images you want to use. Remember that you can use just a portion of your image if it is too large.  The snowmen I used are from the new Singing Snowmen PopCard. For one, I stamped and masked the songbook before stamping the snowman.  Stazon ink works well but I used my Archival Black because that pad of mine seemed juicier at the moment and it also gave me the permanent ink that I needed for coloring.

I wanted to try the Inktense pencils on them and add water with a brush so the color would smooth out and wouldn't just sit on top of the wood.  It might be easier to do some shading if you just use regular colored pencils such as Prismacolor.  It's difficult to blend or shade this way but I do like the look. The wood soaks up the water so quick...you don't need to worry too much about bleeding out of the lines as long as your pencil color stays within! I used a tiny #10 brush.

Here are my finished ornaments. A sentiment was stamped on the back of the snowmen ones. Don't forget to also sign and date!  I also added some "snowflake" dots with a white paint pen. To finish them, I added a small wood bead to the top of the twine (use a 9" piece).

I wanted the nativities to be more rustic, so I only spotlighted the star and manger by coloring with shades of brown.

Inktense colors- Beech Green, Cherry, Chilli Red, Carmine Pink (cheeks), Neutral Gray, Sienna Gold, Saddle Brown, Amber, Tan.

Have a great Monday and… happy stamping!

Therm*O*Web Deco Foil Christmas Ornament by Reneé Matarese

Hello Ai fans!

Today I'm sharing a fun, interactive ornament that I made.  It spins around and you can see
the red and gold foil on both sides.

I used an assortment of products from Therm O Web! I used Red and Gold Deco Foil, adhesive sheets and the PeelNStick double-sided foam adhesive.

I created a tutorial for how I made my ornament.
First I cut the foam adhesive out just a tad larger than my die....times 2.
You need one for the front and one for the back. (I'll explain why later)

Next I laid the snowflake on my foil and cut around that just larger than the snowflake.
I centered my circle die and then cut the circle out.

After peeling the protective sheet off the foam I laid it face down on the SILVER side!
Then, just peel it off.  Look how PRETTY!

Next I took a piece of cardstock and covered it with the adhesive paper.
Also times 2.

Lay the snowflakes down on the SILVER side of the gold foil.

The reason you need two of each snowflake is because you need to stick the string for them to hang on in between the two layers.

Decide where you want to place the snowflakes and remove the adhesive so you can stick the thread down.  Snip off any thread that overhangs.

Place the other foam ornament over the first one to hold the string in place. This is why you needed two of them.  You want the string to be hidden in between them. Remove the adhesive on the second ornament and foil that piece too.  Silver side goes towards the adhesive.

Here's the completed die cut piece with the sweet little snowflakes hanging inside.
They really spin around too!

Add some gold embroidery thread to hang your ornament.

I've tried to embed the video for you to see and can't seem to get it to work.  If you'd like to see the video of the ornament spinning around click HERE.
