Passion on a Textured Background

Hello Ai Fans!
Today I'm working on a fun textured background.

I learned this texture technique from Paula Phillips, a.k.a. Journal Artista.  I created the texture by applying a thick layer of gesso onto a piece of cardstock. I covered most of the piece, leaving some areas untouched - to allow for peaks and valleys.  I then laid the gesso side down on top of another piece of cardstock and slowly pulled it apart.  I allowed the gesso to dry completely.  TIP:  Use a good weight/quality card stock. It needs to be able to hold some water.

Look at all that cool texture!

Next, I scribbled and doodled color over the texture with Gelatos - they have a lot of pigment in them.  I dipped a paint brush into water and spread the color. I allowed that to dry completely.  NOTE:You can use any  medium to color over the texture - try using anything you have in stash - ink refills, acrylic paint, pencils,  pastels... experiment - have fun!  I found my Gelatos online at amazon under the name of 'gel sticks.'  They were a good price.  You can check to see if they still have them here.

To frame the background, I stamped  Branch & Leaves (Sku#P2292) randomly around the edge in gold and black ink. For a finished look, I edged the background layer with a gold leafing pen. As a final touch  I ran the ink pad lightly over the top of the background to brush over the peaks of texture. For the focal image, I chose the Ai word Passion (Sku#H2011).   That's how I feel about color! :o)

I also framed the inside of the card in gold and added a strip of the background design.

Please come back tomorrow to see what awesome project Crystal has to share!

Thanks for visiting!

Take care and STAY POSITIVE!
