Cabin on a lake by Reneé Matarese

 Hello Ai fans!

Did you check out the current challenge here on the blog?

For 20 years my family and I rented cottages on the lake where my husband grew up.  I've spent many hours (and miles and miles) walking around that lake and putting my toes in the water at the end of the dock.  Sadly, everyone we used to rent from sold their cottages and new owners didn't want to rent.  There are other lakes, but they don't have the same meaning as this one did. It's the end of an era.

My card took me back to the summer before COVID which was the last time we rented. (Just a coincidence)

I use the 5726 – Nested Circle Dies to cut a figure 8 shape out of the front panel and then I cut two circles and pieced them together to make a frame for the window.  The sentiments are from 5734 – Friend Sentiment Set.

For the images, I combined three different sets.  I wanted to feel like I was sitting on the dock, watching the sailboats go by and looking at the beautiful cottages across the lake.

4981 – Cabin Circlet MTF
5093 – Dock Circlet MTF
5448 – Sailboat Window Set

You might be thinking,  but Reneé, the Dock Circlet had a cabin in it.  Why did you use the one from the Cabin Circlet?  It's because that one looks much more like the one we used to rent and some others on that lake.

Random fact...it was 5:26 when I glanced at the clock while coloring the sailboat.  Thus, the addition of 526 on the sail.  The ropes/twine were added to give some texture and a bit of a nautical look.

Escape to your Favorite Place | By Jessica Shier

Hello Ai Fans!

Today I'm using the Dock Circlet stamp and die set. These come with two dies to cut out the dock and boats so you can create a fun Tryfold card easily. This time though I'm stacking the top two layers to create a dimensional window card.

Below I have a photo of all the die cutting and stamping I did. Using the third largest Rounded Rectangle Double Stitch die to die cut a piece of Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock and some blue craft foam. Then I stamped the first dock image along with die cutting it. Using that piece to make a line with a black marker on where to die cut the dock die from the craft foam.

The second die and image is of the boats in the water. For this layer I used both boat pieces on white card stock. Then die cut that same piece with the second largest Rectangle Double Stitch die. I also used that second die to die cut the front of an A2 top fold card base, this creates my final window to the inside of the card. Using a pencil I traced the top edge of the die cut onto the inside and stamped the final image with the circular sentiment. Not shown in the photo is also the sentiment "Thinking of you" from the Succulent set, I thought it would go nicely with the inside sentiment "Serenity is found when you escape to your favorite place."

Before gluing my layers together I colored my stamped images with Prismacolor Pencils. These images also look great with Copic coloring or watercolors too! I also inked the edges on the boat and dock die cuts. Using makeup blending brushes again, I blended Distress Oxide inks on to the rounded rectangle piece and adhered that to the blue craft foam. I did ink blending for the second layer too, but used Pumice Stone Distress ink first then Iced Spruce Oxide ink over the top.

Carol has a tutorial you won't want to miss! Let's take a look!

Hello Ai Fans!

For our Stripes and Circles challenge I'm using the beautiful new Front Porch Circlet MTF.  I wanted to do something a bit different with this Circlet and decided to make a cute tag!

Since I wanted the images to be stamped crisp and clear, I used Strathmore Bristol Smooth card stock.  To step it up even a bit more, I pulled out a couple of my long neglected Watercolor Sets and stamped a wreath around the first two circle images.   I wasn't totally certain how this would work with the water color stamps, but I have to say it worked great!  I stamped each image onto a piece of Bristol Smooth using Versafine Onyx Black in, which is waterproof.

After stamping each image, I stamped the wreath using the techniques that Bonnie teaches in her watercolor videos.  To color the images I scribbled each marker color onto my pallet and used a barely damp paint brush to color each one.  (The markers I used are listed at the end of this post.)

I then used the awesome new Tag Stitched Dies set to cut each one into a tag shape.  The main thing I was careful with was to measure where I placed the tag die so that the images would still line up.  Here's a photo showing what I mean.

Measure above and to the right of the die, as shown in first photo.  Then for the others, I used those measurements to make pencil lines for the die placement.  Everything lined up just right this way!  I used the reinforcer die to cut the shape to go around the tag hole where the ribbon is.

Here is a view of the second layer:

And the third layer.  (I actually have a yellow front door on our home!)

I love how this came together.  It would be perfect to give as a card, or tied onto a package for a pretty gift tag.  Of course, you can make this as a mini Tryfold following the directions on the back of the packaging.  I hope you've enjoyed seeing my different take on this Circlet.  I can't wait to see your creations linked up for the challenge!  Happy crafting!

Markers used:
Marvy LePlume II:  Olive Green, Leaf Green, Ochre, Yellow, Magenta, Sapphire,
Manganese Blue, African Violet, Brownish Grey
Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush:  Fog Gray, Dark Brown, Deep Brown

Wow, Carol, this project is so sweet! Love your watercolor wreath and that yellow door!
