Along Came a Spider Challenge #415

 Hello Ai fans!

Fall is in full swing and we have a new challenge for you.

Along Came a Spider!

We want to see your projects that have a spider or a spider web on them.
These can be stamped, die cut, embossed, paper, embellishments...anything
you can think of. We know that not everyone celebrates Halloween so as long
as you have a spider or web on your project it counts. Maybe you'll make a
pretty little vase full of flowers and a spider snuck in with them.
We can't wait to see what you create.

We also have the winners of our Keep it Contained challenge but before
we announce them, let's see what our Featured Designer Janet has created
to inspire you.

We have a new challenge on the blog and it's a fun one, "Once Upon A Spider." Anything made with a spider on it qualifies. By no means does this have to be a Halloween theme but I couldn't resist doing just that!

This is a flip style design. When it's closed the focal point is the cute skeleton. When it's opened, the square focal point flips to the other side. On it I've added a Trick or Treat sentiment on a silver moon surrounded by bats. Opening it also reveals another full scene with a spooky tree, a couple cheeky pumpkins, a metal fence, and of course a spider! I also added the Boo! sentiment.

I used two Ai Sets for the card, 5487 - Front Porch Halloween Set and a die set called 5604 - Halloween Journal Die Set. The perfect papers are patterns from 5849 - Halloween S2 PP.

From the 5487 - Front Porch Halloween Set, I stamped, colored and cut the resting skeleton, the pumpkins on a bench, the tree, and the trick or treat sign. From the 5604 - Halloween Journal Die set, I cut out two fences, three bats, 2 spiders, the Spooky sentiment and three ghosts. I happened to have the silver circle in my scraps and was happy to use it here!

Below are the pieces I cut to make this card. The white card base was cut using Cricut Design Space. The pattern number if you'd like to use it is #M4051D, sized at 5 1/2" tall. I cut one addition decorative square in white which is added to the to the side of the card in the photo. That pattern number is #M40060, sized at 2 1/2" tall. These are included patterns if you are subscribed to Design Space. If not, you can pay for just the two patterns at their per file price.

After cutting the base card, I measured between the fold lines and subtracted 1/4" from the height and width so that the mat spacing is about the same all around the decorative paper and the white card base when the mats are glued in. I added a word strip that I had in my scraps from another Ai Paper pack for additional interest.

I used Design Space to create another nested fancy square shape that was smaller than the original white square and cut it out of the spider web paper pattern. Before gluing it in, I shaded the edges with Tea Dye Distress Ink so that it would stand out as a focal point. I added the skeleton on foam tape and cut the string portion of the sign so I could wrap it around his neck before I glued it in place. The final touch was the spider cut from the die set.

The last step was to glue in the word strip, then two pieces of fence so it would stretch across the full back of the card. Then I glued in the tree and the pumpkins below. Once again I added a spider. This time it hangs from the tree on a strand of web I drew in with a marker. I also added the Boo! sentiment from the versatile die set to balance out the look of the card when it's closed.
