Watercolor Roundup

Hello, Ai Fans! Happy Watercolor Weekend!

Though our lives are currently a bit cloudy, with everything that is going on, we have seen such beautiful creations coming from homes all across the U.S. This may be a small silver lining, but we are so glad that we are able to be a part of the beauty in this chaos!

This week, our Watercolor Design Team has come up with some darling new demos for you to enjoy.

Be sure to follow these lovely ladies on social media by clicking the link in pink next to their names!

Welcome watercolor fans to Watercolor Weekend!

We are so excited to be able to share some inspiration with you in such a trying time.  I love all the beautiful work I have been seeing everyone create while we are at home.  I know for me, crafting is therapeutic and I have definitely needed it more than once lately.  The sentiment was really beautiful and I think it went perfectly with this sweet vase of flowers.

Step 1: I inked the pitcher up with 569, stamped it off and inked it with 969. I wiped off a couple of areas at the top of the stamp so I didn’t have to fight the lines and the foliage looks like it is spilling out of the pitcher.  I stamped it onto my watercolor paper.  Using my brush and water, I pulled the color out of the lines, making sure the darkest color was around the sides to give it some depth.  I added some 569 to my palette and brushed it along the sides and bottom of the pitcher.  I pulled some of the colors out from beneath the pitcher to ground it and create a shadow.

Step 2: I inked up the small vine (it doesn’t matter which one as I only inked the top of the vine) with 177. I stamped it multiple times around the top, front and sides of the pitcher.  I softened the lines with water (dabbing with my brush).

Step 3:  I inked a few of the flowers on the daisy bunch stamp with 685 and stamped it around the foliage.  The bigger the flower, the more buds I inked.  On some of them, I only inked one of the buds to create the look of unopened flowers.  Next, I inked the long flower with 569 and stamped it along the top of the arrangement to give it some height.  I added water to all the flowers to soften them.

Lastly, I signed and dated my work.  If you would like to check out how I put the card together, check out my blog.  I love to see all of your beautiful work, it really inspires and challenges me.  Make sure to use the #AIWatercolor so we can see what you are creating during these difficult times.

I hope you all stay healthy and safe at home.  We are all in this together.  I am grateful for this wonderfully supportive group of crafters who continually inspires me to be not only a better crafter but a better person!

See you next time,

Tricia

Hello,

It's hard to photograph how pretty and shiny this card is in real life. Have you seen this new stamp set from 5366 - Greenery Invites? It has lots of beautiful foliage and sentiments. You could definitely use this set for wedding invitations.

I used Versa Mark to emboss the triple circles and the "Thank You" in that shiny gold. I inked up the foliage with the 177 pen for the upper foliage and I inked the lower foliage in the 249 pen. I pulled the color out of the lines, then added some 173 from the palette to some of the leaves. I added 636 to the palette and watercolored some of the upper foliage.

I used 407 on the palette to watercolor some sky and it mixed with the greens as I dabbed all around the foliage. I used the Rectangle Rounded Corner die for the watercolor paper and the background piece.

The "I love you" sentiment was from the 5230 - SBC Exclusive Roses Set and I inked it in 177. I wet my brush and pulled the color out around the letters. I cut out a Flag die in that bright gold paper and a strip for the top piece then adhered it all to the card base.

Thank you for checking out my blog!  You can find more of my cards on my Instagram account here.

Hello Ai fans!  I have another card to share using 5270 - Columns Set, with minimal stamping, but lots of ink blending:

I wanted to use the lamp post image, and create a night scene, so pulled out my Distress Oxide inks, and blending brushes.  I put some tiny pencil markers on my cardstock indicating where the post would be so that I knew where the yellow glow would be centered, and set to work blending.  Starting with Wild Honey, then Picked Raspberry and finally Blueprint Sketch.  I used some Faded Jeans around the edges of my panel and masked off the bottom section to use it to create the ground.

Using my Versafine Onyx Black ink, I stamped the lamp post and positioned my sentiment from 5066 - Light to my Path Set beside it.  I used my N25 Lamp Black and N55 Cool Grey 7 Tombow Dual Brush markers directly onto my cardstock, adding in the shadows on the lamp post.  After die cutting the panel, I adhered it to my black card base with 3D adhesive tape.

Thank you, ladies, for your wonderful weekend additions to our blog!

Happy Stamping!

Hello Watercolor Fans, I am so excited to showcase the Exclusive Scrapbook.com
Roses Set. These are so easy to watercolor the Art Impressions way.  I hope you get lots of inspiration from the design team.  I am having a blast using these new stamp sets while I am stuck at home!

Project Details
I inked the roses in the rose bouquet with 847 and the leaves with 249.  I stamped it down on my watercolor paper.  Using my #1 paintbrush, I pulled the color out of the lines.  Layering color slowly using my palette, I added additional color to the roses and leaves. For some bling, I added Wink of Stella to the rose buds, just because you can never have enough bling!

I added some 443 to my palette and added lots of water to create a light wash.  I painted it along the outside of the bouquet.  To build the color slowly,  I added more color, keeping it darker in the center.  I allowed some of the color from the roses and leaves to bleed into the background, because I love that look.

Lastly, I signed and dated my work.
Check out my blog to see how I put the card together.  Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you all stay healthy in these trying times!

Hello,

Thank goodness we have our arts and crafts during these stay at home days of the Corona Virus Pandemic! Hope this finds you healthy and safe.

I used the brand new 5228 - SBC Exclusive Daisies Set to make my card for the Watercolor Weekend post on the Art Impressions Blog. I stamped the 4701 - Clay Pot first using No. 40 brownish grey ink on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper.

I pulled the color out of the lines and then added NO. 40 brownish grey to the sides of the pot. I just love pink Gerber Daisies so I stamped the daisies in and on the pot using grey archival ink. I watercolored them from the palette using 772  and the No. 1 watercolor brush.

I dabbed at the centers of the flowers with the 743 fine point end. I stamped the grasses from the 5126 - WC Foliage Set inked in 177, pulled the color out and added some green to the ground. I then inked up the grasses with 173 and stamped them over the other grasses. I stamped the vine from that same foliage set inked in 177 and dabbed at them with a wet brush.

Once again, I inked up the vines in 173 (bright green) and stamped them on top of the other vines. I used 526 for the sky and 565 to the ground in front of the pot.  I cut it out with the Oval Die set and cut out the background papers with the Rectangle Rounded Corner dies.

I stamped that sentiment (I love!) in coffee archival ink and then used the label die to cut it out. I added some Wink of Stella glitter to the flowers but it doesn't show up in the photo.

Thank you for checking out my blog!  You can find more of my cards on my Instagram account here.

I am using the lovely Exclusive Cherry Set available from Scrapbook.com today!

I began by stamping my image onto some smooth watercolor paper (the paint doesn't move around quite as much, but gave me a bit more control of where my color went).  Using my Tombow Dual Brush Marker in #837 Wine Red, I painted the cherries in layers, starting with a fairly pale wash, leaving plenty of white areas to give them a shiny appearance.  After several layers of #837, I wanted the shadows to be darker still, so I went over the darkest areas with #899 Redwood - which is a dark brown color.  I painted the branch and cherry stems with #992 Sand, then added touches of #991 Light Ochre for a little warmth.

I kept in mind that the undersides of leaves are always paler, so I painted those areas with a wash of #126 Light Olive.  The rest of the leaves were painted with #177 Dark Jade, and I added several layers of the color, keeping it concentrated along the veins.  I used a wash of #565 Deep Blue to paint in my sky (it's much stronger than it shows in the photo!), and then I used #565 to add shadows to the branch, leaves and cherries.  The sentiment is from the Daisy Exclusive Set, stamped in Onyx Black Versafine ink.  I die cut my scene, then matted in on green cardstock and adhered it onto my patterned paper background.

Thank you, ladies, for your fun, floral additions to our blog!

Happy Stamping!

Hello Watercolor Friends,

Ready for MORE brand new Art Impressions stamps, including an awesome set of five bridges in this one 5122 - WC Bridge Set? I would love to cross a pretty bridge like this one. I wanted to surround it with flowers and flowering bushes. I stamped the bridge in the center, after inking it with 565 and then stamping it off once on a piece of scrap paper. I pulled the color out of the lines and added a little bit of the 565 to the palette to darken the underside of the bridge and to create the stream. Then I took the bush stamp from the 4051 - WC Foliage Set 1 to create those big blue bushes in the back. Next I inked up the little vines from the brand new 5126 - WC Foliage Set 4 with 177 and stamped them all around the water and bridge. I'm in love with this new foliage set and it has 3 sets that go both ways, it's definitely a must have! I added water to them, then I added flowers everywhere by inking up just three of the tiny flowers from 4052 - WC Flowers set 1 using the 8 violet. I added water to them. I took white paint and tiny stylus and dotted in the centers of many of the little flowers. Next I took the little grasses from the new 5126 - WC Foliage Set 4 and inked them up with the 72 pine green pen and stamped them around. I used the little grass from 4051 - WC Foliage Set 1 and the 177 pen to ink it and stamped the grass all around and added water. I used green from palette to color in the path. I added 528 to my palette and a lot of water to color in the sky. I used my Copic multi liner 0.03 pen to sign it and drew in the lines under the bridge. I used the 5062 - Double Stitched Rounded Rectangle dies to cut out my picture and a background piece. I used this brand new 5133 - Flag double stitched die set to cut out the sentiment flag and stamped it with the "hello" from the brand new 5136 - WC sentiments set 2.

“Soak up the Sun” with the newest release of Art Impressions Watercolor stamps.

Begin by stamping the little girl in the big hat from the WC Beach Girls Set in 969 Chocolate. Watercolor the Art Impressions way with water and a paint brush. Scribble 850 Flesh, 725 Rhodamine Red and 993 Chrome Orange onto your watercolor palette. Brush in 850 Flesh onto her skin, 725 Rhodamine Red onto her hat and 993 Chrome Orange onto her swimsuit. Mask off the bottom of the little girl with masking paper or a post it note, then stamp the foliage from the WC Foliage Set 4in 177 Dark Jade and the flowers from WC Flower Set 1 in 725 Rhodamine Red. Add dot detail to the swimsuit and center of the flowers using a Signo white pigment gel pen. And, add dot detail around the flowers with the fine tip of 725 Rhodamine Red.

This will be Tricia Kennedy’s last week on the team! Tricia, you were a true joy to have on the WCDT and we have loved all your beautiful projects!

Tricia O'Bin - Blog - Instagram - YouTube - Pinterest - Facebook
Step 1: I inked the large bicycle stamp in 969-Chocolate. I stamped it off to the right and masked it off. I inked up the tree from the fairy door set also in Chocolate and stamped it next to the bike. Using a damp brush, I pulled the color out of the lines on both.

Step 2: I added some additional color to the bike and tree. Using my palette, I added some 528-Navy Blue to the bike. I inked up the small vines from the New Foliage 4 set with 177-Dark Jade and stamped them into the front and back baskets. I added a small amount of water to soften them. I added daisy bunches using 725-Rhodamine Red to the foliage.

Step 3: Using the vine from the original foliage set, inked with 249-Hunter Green, I stamped leaves around the tree top. I added grass around the tree and bike using the small grasses from the same set. I inked one of the new Foliage stamps with 636-Imperial Purple and stamped it to the left of the tree as well as between the tire spokes. (Funny note: as I am typing I realize that I didn’t draw in the spokes of the bike…LOL I will put them in now). I added some teeny tiny flowers along the ground for added interest. I added water to all of the flowers.

Step 4: Make sure to sign and date your watercolor piece. On a separate piece of watercolor paper, I stamped the sentiments Happy Little Moments in Gina K Design amalgam ink using my MISTI. I cut it out with the new Flag Double Stitched die. I also cut a piece of craft foam using the die to pop it up. I added some of the new small vines and some small flowers from the Mini Flower set to the left and right of the sentiment.

Step 5: I used 3 different sizes of the stitched square dies to cut the watercolor piece. I added craft foam to the back of the two smaller squares to give them some dimension. I adhered the largest piece to a piece of Lovely Lavender card stock from Gina K Designs cut to 4 x 5.25. Next, I adhered the craft foam to the middle piece and adhered that to the cardstock. Then I added another piece of craft foam to the smallest piece and attached that to the card. I assembled the sentiment to craft foam and attached it to the bottom of the card.
