Hello Ai Fans!

Time for another Watercolor Throwback from Ai! We have another fan-favorite ready to share with you from the archives. Bonnie created this stunning Wooden Chair Set image back in March of 2017. It has soared to almost 10,000 views on YouTube and is in our top 10 videos released in the last two years!

We love the adorable blue bird, small container, and gorgeous blooms Bonnie added to this image. She also used some items in this video you do not see very often! She featured our ivy vine from the Wooden Chair Set and the small buds and stemmed zinnias from our Flower Set 2!

We hope you enjoy this special throwback! We have exciting new Watercolors coming soon (on August 29!) and cannot wait to share what we have been working on with you!

You Brighten My Day Watercolor Card by Carol Hintermeier

Happy Monday Ai Fans!

Today I have one of my favorite type of cards to have on hand--one that I can use for many different reasons to send to a special person!  It's also my favorite type because it's watercoloring the Ai way!! In February I had the pleasure of attending an Ai Watercolor Class at the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo.  I also got to visit Art Impressions' beautiful booth and picked up this awesome WC Jars Set.  This was my first time playing with it and it was so relaxing to just color!

After I stamped and watercolored everything I cut the image out with a Hexagon Double Stitched Die and then used that die and the next larger one to cut out frames from the watercolor paper three times.     After I glued them together, I used the same blue that I used on the pitcher to color the frame.  Oh, I almost forgot to mention I used the WC Stamp Positioner to make sure I stamped the decorative flourish in just the right spot on the pitcher.

I adhered the frame to my white card panel and then glue the stamped image inside.  Such a simple, but sweet, card to make!

Hello Ai Fans!

We are excited to be back after the holidays with a new Watercolor Wednesday! This week, we have a special project from guest artist, Kendra Krebs! She shows us how to create beautiful patterned paper using the basics from our watercolor line. Kendra uses an assortment of vines and flowers in a grid to make easy backgrounds. Simply add a sentiment and share a card with someone special!

I made another red, white and blue card for the Watercolor Weekend roundup. I needed a flag so I drew that one using a pencil, a ruler and that Veteran card for my inspiration. Maybe Art Impression's Creator/Owner Bonnie can create a flag stamp for us to use in the future.

My project for today’s Watercolor Weekend celebrates summer with “Bright and Beautiful Blooms”. Watercolor the Art Impressions Way by inking up the multi-flower long stem from Flower Set 2 in Scarlet and Olive Green. Stamp the single long stem from Flower Set 2 in Violet and Olive Green. Add greenery to the bottom from Foliage Set 1 in Olive Green. Fill in around the previously stamped blooms and add height with the small flower from Flower Set 3 in Brilliant Yellow. Scribble a little Olive Green and Salvia Blue onto your palette. Brush Olive Green into the greenery and finally Salvia Blue for the sky.

I have really been into trying to create quilt patterns with my dies and stamps. My mom is a spectacular quilter and I wanted to try some with paper, so here is what I came up with. 

I die cut several watercolor squares using the Spellbinders Die. Using one of the squares, I stamped the mini watering can from the WC Wishing Well Mini Set in Sepia. I added some foliage with the vine from the WC Foliage Set 2 in Olive Green. I added some flowers from the 5009 – WC Mini Flower Set in Violet and Magenta. I added some grass using the WC Foliage Set 1.

On two more squares, I stamped the flowers from the 5008 – WC Flower Set 3 using Olive Green and Magenta. I cut them in half. To create the batik triangles, I scribbled color onto a craft mat and sprayed them with water. I dipped the watercolor paper into the pools of color. I die cut these with the Spellbinders Die. I also used this die to cut some additional triangles from the Gina K Designs Heavy Base Weight Card Stock- Plum Punch cardstock. I assembled my quilt and used a stitched rectangle to cut out the center. I ran the piece through my die cut machine using the Quilt Top Textured Impressions Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!. I cut the Gina K Designs Heavyweight Cardstock- Fresh Asparagus and Heavy Base Weight Card Stock- Wild Lilac mats using the next two stitched rectangles. I adhered them together and placed them on a white card base.

I hope you will try some new techniques with your stamps. We would love to see what you come up with!

I made this card for the Watercolor Weekend round up with Ai's new stamps - 4958 WC Cottages Set and 4959 - WC Dogs Set. I just love that cute little puppy. There are six different puppies in the set and I am excited to use them all! I added that pumpkin from the WC Series 3 Set 1 - 4056 for a touch of Fall.

My Art Impressions Watercolor Weekend project is quick, easy and only requires two stamps to achieve the “glass vase” look.

Start by stamping the middle vase in the center of your watercolor paper using the Small Container Set in 86 African Violet. Using your stamp positioner, stamp the vase two more times, one to the left and one to the right of middle. Pull the color from the lines making sure to leave a white highlight in the center/center-right portion of the vase. This is essential for a “glass” appearance. Ink up the tall flower cluster in Flower Set 2 with 15 Olive Green for the stems and 13 Ochre for the flowers, stamping twice. You want some of the stems to go into the vase. Next mask off the flowers and stems by placing a post it note at the top of the vase. Stamp only the stem portion from the tall flower cluster in Flower Set 2 into the vase below those already stamped. Don’t ink up the stamp to do this step, use the ink left on the stamp from the previous step. Repeat for the vase on the left using 28 English Red and right 88 Terra Cotta. The flowers are tiny and just require a little water to activate the color and even less, if any, for the leaves. Imagine your light source is coming from the top right corner onto all three vases, the highlight is in the center/center-right. Pull the color from the stems in the vase in the same direction, to the left, leaving the highlight. It gives the idea that light is coming into the “glass vase” and the stems are distorted under the water. Place a little 86 African Violet onto your palette and add dot detail into the bottom of each base to simulate pebbles or marbles. Then, using the fine tip of 86 African Violet, add more dot detail in the same area. Also, add dot detail to the flowers using the fine tip of 13 Ochre, 88 Terra Cotta and 28 English Red. And finally, ground the scene by adding a line of 45 Sepia under the vases.

Welcome to this week’s watercolor weekend.  In the wake of all the tragedies happening around our country I wanted to create a scene that felt peaceful.  I hope it helps to give you some peace as well.  I wish that everyone could spread a little kindness, it goes such a long way.  Therefore, I thought I would use the Beauty is all around you sentiment.  It is so true and it’s a little reminder to be thankful for every day and enjoy your “Happy Place”.

Onto the details of my project.

First, I started by stamping the tree trunks from the New Fir Trees Set with Sepia.  I then added the Foliage from the branches in the Fir Trees Set with Pine Green.  I softened them Fir’s by adding water with my brush.

I added the tiny grass from the Foliage Set to the bottoms of the trees and used my palette to add some additional green to the ground.  I used the Teeny Tiny Flowers from the Flower Set with African Violet to add a touch of color.

Using my palette, I added some mountains in the background using Olive Green, Pine Green and Sepia.  I then added Salvia, Manganese and Blue to create the look of water.  I also used the same colors to create clouds in the sky.  Once it was dry I stamped the bench from the New Benches Set using Mocha.

I added the “Beauty is all around you” from the WC Sentiments set using Black Versamark Ink.  The panel is 3.75x5 which is adhered to a 4x5.25 panel of Dark Chocolate cardstock from Gina K Designs.  I placed the entire panel on an Asparagus card base from Gina K Designs.

NEW VIDEO - Little Miss Watercolor

Hi Ai Fans!

Welcome to a new Watercolor Wednesday! This week, Bonnie is throwing it way back to our WC Series Set 1 featuring our Little Miss. Bonnie starts by stamping the image in her Sepia Marvy Marker. To create a pattern on her dress, she uses her Foliage Set 2 New and Flower Set 1 to add daisies and vines. She uses her WC Palette to add color to the skin, hair, bow, hat and basket, finishing with some added shadows with her African Violet marker. Bonnie adds some grass, from Foliage Set 1, on the ground and flowers inside the basket and ground from our Flower Set 2. For the final touch, she adds a wash of sky and signs her artwork!

Heartfelt Gratitude by Dana Warren

Hello AI fans!!

Today, I have a little watercolor scene I created with Wooden Chair Mini Set, WC Sentiments Set, WC Cats, and WC Flower Set 2, WC Foliage Set 1.

I started by stamping the chair and the flower pot, then the cat. To stamp and color, I used lots of Distress Markers, I'll list them out at the end.

To color the images I also scribbled the colors on a palette and used a paint brush to color the images. Going back over areas with more color to add depth and shading. As I stamped the flowers and foliage I used water and a paintbrush to get the watercolor look.

I added just a little bit of blue to background for a sky. Then I stamped the Heartfelt Gratitude stamp in brown ink. I cut the panel with a stitched rectangle. From my stash, I found some green paper and added it to a white card base. I added the stamped panel with foam tape and last rounded the corners of the card base.

I love Gingham and Polka Dots and thought they'd be a great compliment to these new images.

I love the yellow papers for spring.  They make me think of my daffodils as they bloom.

We were just buried under about 33" of snow in upstate N.Y. so my crocuses that bloomed in the 3rd week of February are long gone.  My daffodils will probably be the next sign of Spring.

As much as I like the light, bright cards above for Spring I had to make one card that's more to my color liking...I love deep earthtones.  This one doesn't have any of the critters but has a pretty container filled with flowers.I think the navy goes nicely with the same yellow paper that the lighter colors went with in my other cards.
